Definitely! Our youth classes are categorized by age, but each of our locations has multiple courts, which allows us to split up classes by skill level as well. So, no matter how much previous experience your child has when it comes to playing tennis, they will be with other students who are at a compatible skill level!
Generally, quality doesn't matter too much when it comes to youth rackets, especially for new players; you can find inexpensive tennis rackets on Amazon that work perfectly. However, a more important factor to consider when buying your child a racket is the size of the racket. Here is a general guide to follow:
We never like to cancel lessons, but sometimes it is necessary due to rain other inclement weather. When it looks like there is potentially bad weather in the forecast, we will be in touch as early as possible to let you know. If we must cancel, we will let you know and will let you know when that lesson will be rescheduled.
For our 45 minute or 1 hour classes, your child should bring:
For our morning/full-day/afternoon camps, your child should bring:
We provide tennis balls as well as all other equipment needed.
Depending on the age group, we typically have somewhere between 3-8 kids per coach (usually fewer students per coach for younger classes).
Our lessons are divided into 5-8 years old, 9-12 years old, and 13-16 years old.
Approximately 2/3 of each class is used for instruction (working on certain shots, working on technique, various drills, etc.) and the other 1/3 is for fun games.
Parents are certainly welcome to stay and watch their child(ren) during their lesson. However, you are also very much welcome to simply drop off your child(ren) and pick them up at the end of class.
Each location has at least a few seats for parents. Fairfax Station, Rolling Valley, and Orange Hunt have pavilions that have room for parents to be sit, but this are may be used in the summer for camp students.
We will communicate almost everything via email (reminders before the beginning of a new session that you registered for, cancellation updates due to inclement weather, etc.), so make sure that the email that you include when registering your child is one that you check often! In some circumstances, however, we may communicate via phone for situations that are more personal or urgent, such as unexpected inclement weather in the middle of class/camp.
Classes are either 45 minutes or 1 hour, the timing of which is specified in the description of the session when you register. During this entire time, your child will be doing tennis-related activities (warm-up before playing, tennis/agility drills, tennis games). NOTE: In the summer, classes are held Monday-Thursday and if there is a cancellation during the week, Friday is used as a makeup day.
Camps are held in the summer and take place from 7:45am-12:15pm. During the camp, your child will play tennis during their 1-hour age group class, 1-1.5 hours of tennis with other camp kids, and the rest of the time is used to engage in other fun activities with the other kids. These activities include things like soccer, board games, tag, any many other fun games! If your child is signed up for swim/dive lessons during camp time, we will pick up and drop them off from the pool. Please pick up your child(ren) by 12:15pm!
